How DreamRide's pedal-by-wire motor works.

The DreamRide Propulsion System

DreamRide is a breakthrough in e-bike propulsion technology.
The key differentiator: a pedal-by-wire drivetrain, rather than a traditional mechanical chain drive with physical gears. It allows for virtually limitless customization to the rider experience: pedaling resistance and cadence, acceleration profiles, various ride modes and transmission styles. The possibilities of a software-defined ride are endless. Core ride modes are ready to go out of the box, and we’re just getting started.

How DreamRide Works
At its core, DreamRide is a seamless integration of a series hybrid drive unit and intelligent software. The key difference is that there is no direct, mechanical connection between your pedaling and the physical movement of the bike.

Energy Conversion: Your pedaling input is converted into electricity by rotating the generator motor, similar to how a dynamo works.

Energy Storage: That electricity returns energy to the battery, much like those old crank flashlights, but supercharged.

Intelligent Output: ALSO software outputs this energy combined with a charged battery to the 750W traction motor, which sends that power to the rear wheel through a Gates carbon fiber belt, sending the TM-B off the line with the same torque as a car.

This output is managed based on how you like to ride your TM-B. Set your cadence, assist level, and ride mode, and the TM-B responds accordingly.

How fast is TM-B?
DreamRide is capable of outputting 180Nm of torque on TM-B. That’s fast… like really fast. 0.3 G’s fast, which is about the acceleration of the average passenger car at hard launch. That torque is useful for off-the-line acceleration, which can keep you safe when sharing the road with cars. Most other e-bikes on the market top out at 100Nm. It is a Class 3 e-bike, meaning it has a top speed of 28mph, a throttle-only speed of 20mph, and a 750W motor. The difference is how quickly TM-B can reach that top speed. Assist levels The TM-B has multiple levels of assist to augment your pedaling. At assist level 1, it feels much like riding a normal bike. Assist level 2 can be compared to an output of two of you, doubling your input. At assist level 10, it feels like unlocking 10 you-power.
Assist Levels by TM-B Model Type

The TM-B offers different levels of support depending on your hardware selection:

Battery Configuration

Assist Level Provided

TM-B Base

Provides up to 5x your pedal input in assist.

TM-B Performance & Launch Edition

Provides up to 10x your pedal input in assist.

Hill FlatteningWith that much motor power, tackling hills feels like riding on flat ground. TM-B automatically adjusts the motor output to match the incline of the surface you’re on and the resistance you’re up against to maintain a smooth and even ride. We call it Hill Flattening, and it works on a 30% grade. Whether you’re in Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or any other place where the hills get ridiculously steep, TM-B will tackle it without breaking a sweat. Regenerative BrakingRecharges the battery while slowing down, to enable longer rides and less wasted energy. Ride ModesYou can learn everything to know about the different Ride Modes and Transmission Styles here.

How TM-B links up with the cloud and your devices.

The TM-B features a full suite of connectivity features that makes it feels more like smart tech than a bicycle.

LTE
TM-B can connect from anywhere using an established, robust cellular band. With a Connect+ subscription, linking up with the IoT means OTA updates anywhere, navigation features, and finding out your bike’s GPS coordinates in seconds. Results may vary, but LTE is generally available nationwide where even 5G is missing.
Will I need a Connect+ subscription to use LTE features?
We want everyone to experience the full connectivity experience as we intended it, so we’re including Connect+ with each TM-B for at least 1 year, and it will be active out-of-the-box.After that trial period, there will be a yearly or monthly fee to keep using the LTE security features of Connect+.
GPS
Using the latest GPS spec, you can pinpoint your TM-B’s position on the map with surprising accuracy, updated regularly. Whether you’re making sure it’s right where you left it, or just forgot where you parked, GPS will get you reunited with your ride.
WiFi
The TM-B has wifi on board, if you happen to have a garage to use it with. Right now, updates happen via LTE, but there will be WiFi features down the line.
Bluetooth®
TM-B uses the latest Bluetooth® spec to connect to your smartphone and to audio devices like the Alpha Wave helmet. Pairing your phone with your TM-B allows you to manage ownership, adjust settings, see critical information, and send navigation directions to the Portal. There’s also a little magic trick Bluetooth® can do: unlock and lock your TM-B simply by walking up to the bike or walking away from it. Bluetooth® is able to sense how far you are away from your ride, so no one can hop on while you’re not looking. Simply park and enjoy your surroundings.

Real-world range varies depending on assist level, terrain, rider weight, and temperature. How long does TM-B take to charge? Base Battery (538 Wh): 0–80% in about 1.8 hoursFull charge in about 2.3 hoursPerformance Battery (808 Wh): 0–80% in about 2.7 hoursFull charge in about 3.75 hours The TM-B includes a 240W USB-C adapter, which is required for safety and fast charge speeds. The stock charger uses a 48v, 5A specification. Can I use a different USB-C charger with TM-B?We recommend sticking with the stock ALSO charger that comes with the bike. TM-B will accept power from different USB-C power sources, but anything other than the ALSO charger invalidates the UL 2849 safety rating, and risks battery damage, overheating, or fire. What happens when the battery gets low or dies mid-ride?At roughly 10% charge, the bike enters "Conserve Mode". Pedal assist and throttle both still work, but max power and top speed are electronically capped to stretch remaining range. At roughly 3%, it enters "Infinite Turtle Mode"; all motor assist and throttle shut off, the bike rides like a normal bicycle, and the last bit of battery is reserved purely for the display and safety lights. Can I charge my phone using a TM-B battery?Yes, the battery includes a USB-C port to output up to 240W so you can charge your devices on the go. Can I mix and match Standard and Large batteries?Yes, Standard batteries work in the Performance TM-B, and Large batteries work in the Standard TM-B. What affects TM-B's range? Assist level: More power, less range. Gentler acceleration allows for more regenerative pedaling and less battery drain.Cold weather: Lithium batteries generally lose usable range in cold temperatures. You may notice a loss of range when the weather gets below 40 degrees F.Terrain: Steep hills, loss of traction, bumps and rough surfaces all affect efficiency. Can I ride a TM-B in the rain?Yes, the battery is water-resistant. It’s IP65 rated, meaning it handles heavy rain, splashing, and puddles.
What happens when the battery is low during my ride?

Below 10% Charge: The bike enters Conserve Mode, limiting power assistance to help you pedal more efficiently.

At or Below 3% Charge: The bike enters Infinite Turtle Mode, where the rider's pedaling input generates just enough power to sustain a steady speed of 5-7mph, using minimal power to keep the bike's core systems on.

How many charge cycles does the battery last before it degrades? The battery carries a 2-year limited warranty or up to 300 recharge cycles, whichever comes first. The durability and longevity is roughly what you'd expect from automotive-grade cells. Over time and hundreds of charge cycles, you may notice a loss of battery capacity. Do you sell additional batteries? We will. But they’re not available quite yet. Does the battery have UL certification? The TM-B is tested and rated to the highest safety certification available: UL 2849 That standard means an accredited laboratory has verified that the entire electrical system, from the cells, power management, motors and controllers, are protected against thermal events, overcharging, and physical impact. The battery uses the same Samsung cells that a Rivian does, meaning that they are as reliable, durable, and powerful as a top-end electric vehicle.
